Sky UK to Release New Movies at Home and Cinema on Same Day

Suddenly Sky Store looks very attractive, especially with the vouchers you get with the sticks

You can now watch the latest cinema releases from your home, thanks to a new initiative from Sky TV. In quick response to the Coronavirus effectively shutting down all cinemas in the UK, Sky has teamed up with NBCUniversal to bring cinema movie releases to homes right away.

This is a first. With this announcement, gone will be the days of waiting for a cinema release to have finished airing at the local multiplex or arthouse. You'll now be able to enjoy them at home without those noisy kids at the back or getting sticky shoes walking on the spilled drinks and discarded popcorn.

A selection of movies will be available to rent through the Sky Store on the same day as their global release at cinemas, with the first being Trolls World Tour on April 6.

Will this be available using the Now TV Cinema pass or only available through the sky store?

A Friendly warning, I believe Sky Store still streams in 720p and has not been subject to a similar upgrade to 1080p as NOWTV has with Boost.

If you’re happy with this go ahead.

From Sky store F&Q

Can I watch in HD?

All our Buy & Keep movies and TV shows are available to watch in HD on compatible devices.

HD (720p) on NOW TV box, Roku, LG Smart TV, Windows 7 (or later), iOS and Android
- HD (1080i) on compatible Sky boxes
- SD only on Mac and earlier version of Windows

We recommend a minimum speed of 5Mbps to watch in HD.

FYI that I do not work for NOW, just a NOW customer trying to help

Can I watch the new releases on nowtv, or is it only available to sky customers? I don't have  smart stick, I have the roku box.

You just need the Sky Store channel on Roku: https://channelstore.roku.com/en-gb/details/34248/sky-store
