The coronation of Lewis Hamilton as World Champion at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November crowned a season dominated by the Mercedes Silver Arrows. The best driver in the best car had won the Drivers’ Championship but that does not tell the whole Shakespearean story of rivalries, old and new, that kept us riveted to our screens last year.

It looks like it’s going to restart like the 2014 campaign ended with Mercedes leading the field as Hamilton and Rosberg resume hostilities on Sunday at the Australian Grand Prix. The ambitious German was taught a few lessons by his teammate last year but rest assured he will be keener than ever to get one over his old karting pal this time around.

Will there be a surprise in the pack.

Heading the chasing pack are some familiar faces in unfamiliar colours, as former World Champions Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel look to revive their fortunes with McLaren and Ferrari respectively. While the ‘Prancing Horse’ seems to have garnered some confidence after a winter spent embedding improvements within car and team, McLaren seemed to have endured their very own ‘winter of discontent’. They have struggled with reliability after renewing their partnership with Honda and also lost Alonso for Sunday’s first race of the season.

Hamilton and Rosberg going bumper to wheel.

Red Bull’s smiling young buck Daniel Ricciardo will be one to watch now that Vettel has vacated the No. 1 seat. The popular Aussie was an unknown quantity last year but impressed with his racing instinct and fearless driving. He will be looking to build on his promise and jump on any weakness shown by Mercedes and we fully expect to see his grinning face on the podium on numerous occasions this year.

Each track has its own character.

Williams have been on an upward curve after for a few years now and finished third in last season’s Constructors’ Championship. In ‘ice cold’ Finn Valtteri Bottas and the fiery Brazilian Felipe Massa they have the talent and well-balanced team, but it remains to be seen if the car has improved significantly enough to get either of these two drivers on the podium more frequently.

So there you have it. The scene is set for another year of relentless endeavour, cutting edge technology, horse-power and lightning speed.
