Re: username and password for vdsl settings third party router

Wireshark worked for me too. No need to wire, Wireshark can sniff packets over wireless network and there are plenty of YouTube videos to show you how. I searched “use wireshark to setup third party router”. After wasting time on the skybb website posted, it took me about 20 minutes to use Wireshark. Router/modem now connected to internet without bridging with NowTV router.

Re: username and password for vdsl settings third party router

Outstanding. This post is the exact advice I was looking for and didn't even need Wireshark to get what I needed. Thank you, numptysnowtv for taking the time to share.

To answer the question about which MAC address to use; it is indeed the LAN MAC that's needed.

This method worked for my TP-Link  AC1900 router.

Re: username and password for vdsl settings third party router

I'm not having any joy finding the username or password. I have tried  http://www.ph-mb.com/products/sky-calc; for the Now Tv 2 hub, which router type do i use as this is obviously for SKY routers? I have got the MAC address (I logged into my NowTV account and found the LAN MAC address in there). Is the serial number the one on the back of my router?

@Oliviaandjack

FYI, http://www.ph-mb.com/products/sky-calc doesn't produce right usernames and password anymore.

At least for broadband/ADSL (don't know for Fibre/VDSL), username ends with "@nowtv" and password is 8 characters long.

If you're still struggling with Wireshark, look up utility on SkyUser forum.

Re: username and password for vdsl settings third party router

Many thanks for the solution, it worked first time! As noted elsewher, you need to use the MAC address found in the admin page of the NOW TV Hub. I simply entered the PPP Username & PPP password on my tp-link Archer VR400.

Re: username and password for vdsl settings third party router

I've done it exactly as you said, waited for the DHCP Discover packets to appear after a reboot, search udp.port === 67, then looked for the 'Client Identifier (61) but it only gives me some 7 characters of junk (=LyòäÆ). Nothing like your example  'xxxxxxxxxxx@nowtv|<password>'

HI @MontyM I have the same issue as you were having, just 7 characters of junk. Were you able to resolve the issue?

Re: username and password for vdsl settings third party router

No, I gave up on Wireshark, and went back to using
http://www.ph-mb.com/products/sky-calc and an ethernet cable to set up
rather than Wifi. To be honest I think you can use any made up
username/password as highlighted here
https://kevq.uk/how-to-use-a-tp-link-router-with-sky-fibre-optic. Just make
sure you're using the right VDSL router, mine's a TP Link VR600 (AC1600)

Re: username and password for vdsl settings third party router

This sounds quite daunting, I have archer c2. My nowtv fibre hasn't been activated yet. I am currently with plusnet. I am considering just calling plusnet and asking them to pricematch nowtv.

I have moved to sky mobile, and currently about to move to nowtv fibre, because of their prices. But I am reconsidering whether it's worth it for the rubbish (non-existent) support and the spam to buy TV passes and stuff.
