Once again I'm left without internet. This is tedious and ridiculous. I've never known a broadband company to have this many connection drops. Then I check connection and I'm told it's a problem with my home setup, which hasn't changed since it was successfully connected to the internet 10 minutes ago.

Feel your pain I do, however as we are just customers on the forum there is very little we can do apart from advice. Which I would say keep pestering the broadband team.
Annoyingly NOW are fully reliant on OpenReach for maintaining the network. So it could be a fault with the lines at your property, or the main lines in the street. Perhaps ask for full investigation?
