Switching to Plusnet but Now Broadband showing upcoming payment

My Now Broadband contract ended, and not wanting to pay the hiked renewal price I opted to switch to Plusnet, signing up with them on 28th June. My Now account is showing a pending charge of £38.50 for Broadband on 12th August which I don't want to pay. According to Now and Plusnet, I shouldn't need to inform Now of my intention to cancel, however I'm concerned I'm going to end up paying two suppliers. How can I cancel the Now Broadband payment? It doesn't show up as a Direct Debit on my online banking.

The payment is registered as a CPA (Continuous Payment Authority) against the Debit or Credit card you gave Now the details of when you signed up.

You can ask your card supplier to stop paying out on it, and they must do this if you have requested it.

However, you will do much better to take the advice above and contact Now about it first, using the Stop only if they look like they might take the payment willy-nilly,

Set a Payment PIN on your account so that no-one but you can buy memberships on it. Check your bank accounts monthly for any other unexpected payments to Now. That way you can at least nip them in the bud, while you and Now figure out whose fault they are.
