Continually charged for cancelled pass

I signed up to NowTV when Game of Thrones aired last year, and cancelled during it so I wouldn't be charged for a rollover. Uninstalled the app and never used again.

 

However I've just now realized (because my card expired) that they've been charging me every month since, so like half a year. I checked my inbox and can't see any emails for cancelation, but also cannot see any emails for invoices for being charged either. Only have one account also.

 

I hopped on Live Chat and was told "maybe you skipped a step for cancelling" or something, and they cancelled my account.

 

What is going on here? It seems to be a common theme on here after searching.

 

Any way I can get a refund or escalate this issue?

Also can someone let me know the exact steps to cancel that I may have 'skipped'? Thanks
