Broadband speed

Hi guys,

Just wondered what internet speed in mbps you need to watch Now TV, both live and on demand? I'm on my own, so would only be watching on one tv and maybe using the laptop at the same time.

I am looking at changing broadband providers, currently have BT Infinity 1 (up to 57mbps I think) and I have been able to watch fine. Just wondering could I go lower? Bill at the minute is so expensive (and I checked, but I can't get Now TV broadband in my area).

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum. NOW TV recommend a minimum of 2.5Mbps. NOW TV don't stream any higher than 720p so 5-6Mbps should be more than adequate for watching, which means unless you are in a particularly rural area or far from an exchange you shouldn't expect any issues with a standard ADSL connection.

Hi,

I want to move to a rural area in Scotland and would like to know if 5 or 6 Mbps will a good connection as I use my internet for my TV and work.

All other providers say that I'd get around 2mbps and top end of 6mbps? This seems very low to me as I need to rely on my internet for everything I do.

Right now I'm on 30/35mbps. Is it worth moving (or not) to a rural house?? 😢

Thanks for your advise!

Hi Shane

I'm not going advise you whether to move or not but I will give you one general rule, and that is the further you move away from population centres the slower your Internet speed will become

So I would suggest you research the area you plan to move into, find out which ISP services that area (rural areas usually only have one ISP and pay through the nose), and what download and upload speeds are available.  Better still, speak to some of your potential neighbours about their Internet experience, you're more likely to get honest answers rather than "advertising speak".

Unfortunately Ed, the only way to come out ahead of this is to do some research yourself.

Hi ... I have just joined NOW TV in preparation for moving house and I love it, have set it all up to test at my current place.

... however I am concerned because the broadband speed at my current house is great at around 70 mbps and although I am moving only a mile or so away the new place has a slower speed prediction of around 10 mbps.

Will that be enough?

I will be alone most of time and just using one TV at a time (although I now have 2 x NOW sticks) and using a laptop and/or phone for browsing at same time.

Would this lower speed support that and what would be the minimum needed? Thanks ...
