As Jim White is wrapped in cotton wool and returned to cold storage, Transfer Deadline Day is done and dusted for another few months. While is dust is yet to settle on this summer’s transfer activity it’s never too early to make a convoluted judgement on the window's winners and losers.

Radamel Falcao's move to United shocked the football world.

Most Audacious: When Radamel Falcao tweeted out his happiness at completing his ‘dream move’ to Real Madrid on the eve of transfer deadline day before being quickly deleted, it felt like a natural development. Whatever happened in the intervening hours we will never know for sure but the much maligned Ed Woodward must have pulled his finger out along with his cheque book. Falcao to United was flagged up early on D-Day and subsequently blew everything that had gone before out of the water. A loan deal in which the Colombian hit-man will receive a staggering £347,000 per week for his services, will add even more potency to United’s already frightening array of attacking talent.

He's dat guy!

Most Intriguing: A talented player who has a Premier League winners medal, Champions League experience, pace, power, heading ability, tekkers and an eye for goal becomes available for £16m, what are you going to do? When you factor in that he's also an England International with a Euro Champs and a World Cup Finals under his belt at the tender age of 23-years-old, then it's a no brainer. While some Arsenal supporters bought into the United fan narrative that had written off Danny Welbeck as a relative failure, the more savvy Gooner realised that Wenger might have just struck gold. Valued as the main striker and with a point to prove, Welbeck could come back to haunt the club that discarded him.

Bayern capture of Robert Lewandowski from Dotmund was daylight robbery.

Best Value: Robert Lewandowski’smove from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern cost the price of a quick call on a mobile and could well prove the bargain of the century. Having run down his contract at BVB after amassing 74 goals in 131 games, while helping Jurgen Klopp’s team become one of the best teams in Europe, he left and joined the actual best team in Europe. Pep Guardiola can obviously spot a bargain because not only has he bagged a player of mercurial goalscoring ability but also raided his old adversaries of Madrid to sign the second coolest beard in football. Xabi Alonso may come second to Pirlo in the facial hair game but his long range passing is on a par with the Italian maestro for a mere £5m. Now that's cool.

Mad, bad, or just a little dangerous?

Most Risky: Although Brendan Rodgers may have extracted the best football from the Uruguayan ‘mad dog’ genius of Luis Suarez, he never managed to cure him of his cannibalistic tendencies. ‘Once bitten, twice shy’ is obviously a saying that Big Brendan doesn’t agree with because he gone out and brought in possibly the maddest player in football as his replacement. When Mad/Super (delete as appropriate) Mario Balotelli is not letting off fireworks inside his bathroom, having punch-ups with his colleagues on the training field or getting himself sent off for questioning the parentage of referees, he can be a vital asset to any team. Whether Rodgers can keep him ‘on-side’ for the whole season is open for debate but will no doubt prove interesting for all Balotelli-watchers.

Daley Blind will add much needed versatility to the United squad.

Most Versatile: If Daley Blind was anon-organic man-made utensil he would be a Swiss Army knife such is his adaptability, although we are still not certain whether he’s been fitted with a docket for a USB stick as of yet. Possessed of a quality left-foot and innate positional awareness, Blind could be the key that unlocks the door to Louis van Gaal’s brave new world at the Theatre of Dreams. Young and technically gifted, Mr Versatility was bought for less than half the price that United splurged on afro-punk Fellaini and could turn out to be their most important signing since Eric Cantona.

Wilfried Zaha will bring multiple step overs back to Selhurst Park.

Most Sentimental: Wilfried Zaha was lauded as the ‘King of the multiple stepover’ by adoring Crystal Palace fans, when this street-smart midfield dynamo from South London helped propel the Eagles into the Premiership. Unfortunately for the lad, when he upped sticks to United no one was particularly impressed with his fancy footwork and extravagant flicks, especially David Moyes. Zaha did find an outlet for his dancing feet at various nightclubs in the area but this was obviously detriment to his football development. Eventually banished from Old Trafford to the ends of the Earth (Cardiff) to see out last season, newly installed Palace boss Neil Warnock welcomed him back to the Palace with open arms.

Worst Buy: Shane Long for £12m - Enough said.
